There is no ‘Squad Drill Sergeant’. There is a Platoon Sergeant, that handles the day-to-day affairs of the Platoon, but there is no Squad Drill Sergeant.
And the Staff Sergeant doesn’t do desk work, unless he is in a position that does desk work. Infact, in the Infantry, the lowest rank at a desk is usually a Brigadier General.

5. Sgt.
And, Sgt. is a lot more than you think it is. The Sergeant is the once that interacts with the squad the most. And, carries out missions with the squad. While the Staff Sgt. is doing desk work. And, when the the the Staff Sgt. is present, the Sgt. takes charge of the squad. The Sgt. also does more. The Sgt. is also the Squad Drill Sgt., and during WW2, the Sgt. was referred to as being a, Buck Sgt. -
